Film ReelVideo Details: Controversial video clip "I am Autism" by Alfonso CuarĂ³n and Billy Mann. The video debuted on September 22, 2009 at Autism Speaks' Second Annual United Nations World Focus on Autism in New York. Critics say the Autism Speaks video clip "I am Autism" depicts people with autism as less than human and burdens on society. Disability advocates are coming together to condemn the "I am Autism" video by the autism advocacy organization. Since its founding, Autism Speaks has merged with three existing autism organizations and raised millions of dollars for autism research. Autism Speaks's advocacy has been based on the view of autism as a disease, a view shared by many but not all autism scientists. Autism Speaks also sponsored and distributes the controversial short video "Autism Every Day" in which it is said autism is portrayed in an unrealistic negative way.
